Hello and welcome to our academy website. It gives me great pleasure as Head Teacher to greet you at this exciting juncture in the journey of Bishop Rawstorne.

Bishop Rawstorne Church of England Academy provides outstanding education for 11 – 16 year-olds from the local area. In August 2011 we became a new ‘converter academy’ and look forward to not only maintaining the highest standards of teaching and learning but also to continue in our aspiration to be the very best. We are a high performing institution and at our last full Ofsted inspection the school was rated as outstanding, a judgement reinforced by Ofsted’s interim assessment in 2010 that again rated us as outstanding. Bishop Rawstorne has been delivering high quality education in a Christian environment for over 50 years and our Year 11 students this year attained 89% A* - C pass grades with a remarkable 83.3% of students attaining at least 5 A* - C grades including English and Mathematics ,exceeding the most challenging and rigourous targets. This latter figure of 83.3% is the government’s preferred headline figure placing us firmly in the top 10% of schools nationally, a tribute to the culture and ethos of the school, the commitment of all the staff here and the unstinting hard work of our pupils.

We also support over 30 other schools and institutions to raise the standards of teaching and learning, drive school improvement and to give even more young people the opportunity to excel. Our staff are recognised nationally as innovators and experts in their field and they give freely of their time to ensure success both within the academy and nationally. Through our significant partnerships at local, regional and national level, the professional development of our staff has been hugely enhanced and this leads directly to the enrichment of our own pupils each and every day.

As a Church of England Academy we continually strive to provide the highest standards in Christian education within an environment that addresses the moral, spiritual and cultural needs of all individuals within our care. The whole school community works hard together and worships together that we might achieve the best we possibly can, regardless of age or ability.
